I later tried to do a 8 in an unoccupied corner, when one of the guards came rushing towards me "That direction!" - meaning "go in circles CCW only", while he was rushing straight over the place cutting beginners who could hardly keep their balance anyway...
Joel and I went in a pub with nice live music afterwards.
